Frank Murphy is a broadcaster, writer, and improviser. He was born in Albany and grew up in Yonkers. He graduated from George Mason University, where he won the Senior of the Year award. Earlier in his radio career, Frank worked at WAVA-FM in Washington, D.C., and KLOS-FM, KROQ-FM, and KPWR-FM in Los Angeles.
In addition to being on the radio, Frank is the host and head writer of Scholars’ Bowl, a televised high-school academic tournament that can be found on the PBS app. The interview program, Up Close with Frank Murphy, can also be found on the PBS app.
Frank served as emcee and facilitator at speaking engagements by the world-renowned forensic anthropologist Dr. William Bass for several years.
Frank earned the title “Man of the Year” in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s 2017 fundraising competition. In 2012 and 2013, Frank won stand-up comedy contests to raise money for charity. He performed in a weekly short-form comedy improv show for over twenty years.
Frank became a KCBS Certified Barbeque Judge in 2013. Frank has visited all 50 states and hopes to take his wife Jere to the two states she has not yet visited. Frank and Jere have two adult children and five grandchildren.
